SweetSpot ("App", "we", "us") is an independent iOS application developed by Kirtidhwaj Patra, a solo developer based in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The App is distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store.

This Privacy Policy applies to the SweetSpot iOS app (version 1.0 and all subsequent versions) and the associated GitHub Pages support site. It does not apply to third-party websites or services you may reach via links from our support pages.

If you have any questions about who is responsible for your data, see Section 10 — Contact.

SweetSpot is designed with privacy as a default. We split data into two clear lists:

Data we do NOT collect

  • Personal identifiers — name, email address, phone number, date of birth
  • Location data, GPS coordinates, or room-level positioning
  • Device advertising identifier (IDFA) or vendor identifier (IDFV)
  • IP address or mobile network operator
  • Browsing history, search queries, or cross-app usage patterns
  • Photos, contacts, calendar events, or any other device content
  • Crash logs or diagnostics sent to remote servers
  • Any data from other apps on your device

Data stored locally on your device only

  • Network test results per session — score, download speed, latency, jitter
  • Session timestamps — start and end time of each measurement run
  • In-app preferences you configure — stored in iOS UserDefaults on-device
Key point: Every byte of the above is stored exclusively in your iPhone's private app sandbox. None of it is transmitted over the internet, sent to our servers, or accessible to us in any form at any time.

SweetSpot uses Apple's native Network framework and URLSession APIs to measure the quality of your active WiFi or cellular connection. Here is what happens step by step:

Note on network probes: To measure speed, the app makes real network requests. These are anonymous ping and data-transfer probes — they carry no personal identifiers, no device ID, and no user information. They are functionally no different from your browser loading a web page.

SweetSpot integrates no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, or data brokers. The following are explicitly absent from the app's codebase:

The only external network activity is the anonymous speed-probe requests described in Section 3. These requests are stateless and carry no identifiers that could be linked to you.

Future changes: If a future version of SweetSpot introduces optional features that require a server — for example, cloud history sync or cross-device sharing — this policy will be updated and you will be notified inside the app before any change takes effect. All such features will be explicitly opt-in.

All data generated by SweetSpot lives in your iPhone's secure app sandbox — an isolated container that other apps cannot read and that we cannot access.

Retention periods

  • Session results: Stored until you manually delete them in-app, or until you uninstall SweetSpot.
  • Preferences: Stored until the app is uninstalled.
  • Server-side retention: None — because we receive no data, there is nothing for us to retain, delete, or manage on your behalf.

iCloud Backup

SweetSpot's local data may be included in your device's iCloud backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings. This is controlled entirely by you and Apple — not by us. To exclude SweetSpot from iCloud backup, go to: Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Show All → SweetSpot → toggle Off.

How to delete all your data

Uninstalling SweetSpot from your device permanently removes all locally stored app data. No request to us is necessary because we hold nothing remotely.

Since SweetSpot does not collect or hold personal data on any server, most data-protection rights are automatically satisfied — your data is already entirely on your device, under your control alone.

Your RightHow to Exercise It
Access your dataAll test results and session history are visible directly inside the app.
Delete your dataDelete individual sessions in-app, or uninstall the app to remove everything permanently.
Correct your dataTest results are objective live measurements; they cannot be edited by design.
Restrict processingStop using the app. No background processing occurs when the app is closed.
Data portabilityYour data is already on your device. If a future version adds export, it will use iOS share sheets.
Object to processingDelete the app. All local data is immediately removed.
Lodge a complaintContact us first (Section 10). You may also contact your national data protection authority.
GDPR & India DPDPA note: If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023), these rights are guaranteed under applicable law. Since we process no personal data, you already hold the strongest possible position as a data subject.

SweetSpot is rated 4+ on the Apple App Store. The app does not collect personal information from anyone of any age, which means children can use it safely without any additional safeguards being required.

We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under the age of 13 (COPPA, USA) or the applicable age in your jurisdiction. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow provided personal data through SweetSpot, please contact us — though under normal use of the app this cannot occur.

Because SweetSpot does not transmit or store personal data remotely, the attack surface is minimal by design. The primary protection for your in-app data is your device's own security:

We recommend keeping your device updated to the latest iOS version and using Face ID or a strong alphanumeric passcode to protect your device and its contents.

Responsible disclosure: If you discover a security vulnerability in SweetSpot, please email us directly (see Section 10) before making it public. We will acknowledge your report within 72 hours and aim to resolve confirmed issues within 14 days.

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the app or in applicable law. When we do:
